Stories contributed to In Search of the Frightening & Beautiful 4 / 2019. These are descriptions of transformative moments in people’s lives, from the subtle to the sublime. From each story I extract a key phrase and stitch it to a piece of linen that will be given as gifts to others I meet on the road, in exchange for a story of their own.

Monet Schank. Austin, TX

Hi, my name is Monet Schank. I'm from Austin, Texas. I have this friend that I was really good friends with through my brother. And we had met back in July of 2017. It's currently February 2019. So we have had this really strong bond and we still talk to this day. And I just found out that he and his family are moving to New Mexico pretty soon because his mom and step-dad don't want live in Texas anymore. This is affecting me tremendously. I don't know how to feel about this. I'm going to miss him a lot and.. you know…there’s really no telling what happens if I will ever see him again, really? So yeah, I just… you know, there's certain people in life who you really have to know. They're worth waiting for and you know, he's one of the people that really understood me. See, in the past, I've been bullied on my size and my weight, and just like me in general -  my race and ethnicity - and he, he just, like, really understood me and I could talk to him about anything.

So he just informed me that they're moving to New Mexico, which is about 13 hours away. And I don't know what I'm going to do without him because he's a really really caring and loving person to be around and he has such an amazing side that he brings along.. and I’m.. going to miss. What do you do when your best friend or your really close friend leaves you and moves 13 hours away. They're going to forget about you. And you know, if he forgets about me, I don't know what I'll do. Because he was really something, and really someone I can relate to, and he can relate to me, and that - that’s really something that you'll never really truly find in a person unless you know that that person is one of the people that you're going to spend your life with, like, as a friend, or even more than a friend. But he was the one that I could always talk to.
