Empty Tables & Chairs in the Desert (pillow collection)
2002-2003. Hand stitched thread on thrift store mattress pads, batting. Various dimensions.
$100 each / $200 for x3

Between 2002-2003 I handmade and stitched over 90 pillows for an interactive installation called “Empty Tables & Chairs in the Desert” that was exhibited at Spanganga Gallery in San Francisco (2002) and at the Sonoma Museum of Visual Art (2003). The installation included cards with questions viewers were prompted to answer that were written to rapidly evoke sensual memories, along with the locations where these events took place. The installation grew over time as I stitched responses to pillows I made from found, used mattress pads.
