Sound Wave Mural
Exterior house paint and acrylic on concrete, 12’ x 72’. 2019
A new permanent outdoor mural commissioned for House of Blues in Houston, TX. Situated near the loading dock, where bands bring in their equipment and workers hang out on lunch breaks. Called the “sound wave mural”, the design is inspired by a Big Mama Thornton song, “Sweet Little Angel”. Her voice had the power to punch holes in walls. She taught herself to play drums just by watching people, gaining control of her overall sound. Born in Alabama, she moved to Houston at a young age and launched her career there.
Located at Dallas and Caroline Streets in downtown Houston, TX.

FolkHeART Mural description
Hand-painted in acrylic:
”To honor the community in America’s most diverse city, House of Blues commissioned this mural to remind us that folk art is ingrained in and reflective of the cultural life of Houston.
House of Blues is dedicated to educating and celebrating the history of Southern Culture and its contributions to food, music, and art. Folk art commemorates shared cultural aesthetics and social issues. It is created of, by, and for the people; all people, regardless of culture, gender, age, ethnicity, and religion. House of Blues grew out of a love for the unique American art form known as The Blues, and has become the largest public curator of Folk Art in the world, a unique form that has also been referred to as Outsider Art or Visual Blues.
This mural draws inspiration from a range of artists whose original artwork can be found inside of House of Blues Houston. Artists such as Willie White, R.A. Miller, Reginald Mitchell, Willie Jinks, Glenn Fox, LeRoy Almon, Sr., and Big Al Taplet. We pay tribute to them as they have enhanced and continue to inspire people’s lives through their unique self-expression.
We are united in diversity.'“
