TRIAGE - an exhibition about environmental urgency - opens at Throughline Collective, HTX, on 3/28/2025
Bit (3), Heather L. Johnson, 2024. Machine stitched polyester thread and hand-stitched cotton floss on found cotton scrap, 26” x 40”.
This spring, Heather L. Johnson and Ellen H. Ray will show new cross disciplinary artwork that looks at our environment as a living entity, composed of interconnected organisms that thrive, evolve, and suffer trauma, as humans do.
Through installation, video, drawing, embroidery, and interactive projects, artists Ellen H. Ray and Heather L. Johnson celebrate the resilience of non-human life while reflecting on consequences of environmental damage and our urgent need for deeper connections to the nonhuman world. As both artists question dichotomies emerging from our reliance on climate-compromising technology, they amplify hope offered in the persistence and tenacity of nature.
Triage will feature Johnson’s latest iteration of The Brio Memory Project, currently being expanded into different areas of Houston, thanks to support through a grant from the City of Houston, administered by Houston Arts Alliance.
